The Challenge

The project aimed to document the sacred Ma’nene tradition in a way that felt respectful, immersive, and culturally authentic — avoiding overly staged or touristic representation.

The challenge was capturing deeply emotional ancestral rituals while preserving the atmosphere, spiritual meaning, and cultural identity of the Torajan community.

Creative Approach

We focused on observational storytelling, natural interactions, and intimate cultural moments to preserve the authenticity of the ritual and the people involved.

Rather than relying on narration-heavy direction, the visual approach emphasized atmosphere, human expression, ceremonial detail, and the emotional connection between family and ancestry.
